ബി.സി.331 ഏപ്രിൽ മാസത്തിൽ ഫറോസ് ദ്വീപിനു ചുറ്റുമായി മഹാനായ അലക്സാണ്ടർ ചക്രവർത്തി അലക്സാണ്ട്രിയ നഗരം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. നഗരത്തിലെ വരമ്പുകൾ നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ഇടുങ്ങിയ ചുണ്ണാമ്പുകല്ലുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ്.[3] ഫറോസ് ദ്വീപിനു എതിർവശം ഫറോസ് ലൈറ്റ് ഹൗസ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.[4] അലക്സാണ്ടറുടെ എഞ്ചിനീയറായ ഡിനോക്രേറ്റസ് അലക്സാണ്ട്രിയ നഗരത്തിനെയും ഫറോസ് ദ്വീപിനെയും തമ്മിൽ ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഭീമൻ കൽപ്പാത നിർമ്മിച്ചു.1200 മീറ്റർ നീളവും 200 മീറ്റർ വീതിയും ഉള്ള ഹെപ്റ്റാസ്റ്റേഡിയോൺ എന്ന ഈ കൽപ്പാത വാണിജ്യ-വ്യാപാരത്തിനും, സൈന്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള കപ്പൽ ഗതാഗതത്തിനും ആണ് നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.
