ശ്രീലങ്കൻ പുള്ളിപ്പുലി
ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ മാത്രം കാണപ്പെടുന്ന പുള്ളിപ്പുലിയാണ് ശ്രീലങ്കൻ പുള്ളിപ്പുലി. Panthera pardus kotiya എന്ന ശാസ്ത്രനാമത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ പുലികൾ ആകെ 250ൽ താഴെ മാത്രമേ ഇന്ന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുള്ളൂ [1]

1956ൽ ശ്രീലങ്കൻ ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ ആയ പോൾ എഡ്വാർഡ് പൈറിസ് ദേരാനിയാഗ്ല യാണ് ഇതിനെ ആദ്യമായി വർഗ്ഗീകരിച്ചത്.[2] സിംഹള ഭാഷയിൽ ഇത് കോട്ടിയ എന്നും തമിഴിൽ ഇത് ചിരുത്തൈ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. [3]
