ഒരു വാർത്താ വെബ്സൈറ്റാണ് വിക്കിട്രിബ്യൂൺ (ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ശൈലിയിൽ WikiTRIBUNE).[1] പ്രഫഷണൽ ജേർണലിസ്റ്റുകളേയും സന്നദ്ധരായ വോളണ്ടിയർമാരോടൊപ്പം സൗജന്യമായി നിഷ്പക്ഷമായ, വസ്തുതാപരമായ, ഉയർന്ന നിലവാരത്തിലുള്ള വാർത്തകൾ സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്ന വഴിയാണ് ഇതിലെ ഉള്ളടക്കം ചേർക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. വ്യാജവാർത്തകൾ പരക്കുന്നത് തടയിടാനായി വ്യാപകമായ പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ച വാർത്തകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ, വാർത്താപ്രാധാന്യം, വാസ്തവം പരിശോധിക്കൽ, വാർത്തകളുടെ ഉറവിടം ചേർക്കൽ എന്നിവയാണ് ഇവർ ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ. 2017 ഏപ്രിലിൽ വിക്കിപീഡിയ സഹസ്ഥാപകൻ ജിമ്മി വെയ്ൽസ് വിക്കിട്രിബ്യൂൺ എന്ന പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പുതിയ ഓൺലൈൻ മാധ്യമം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്.[2][3][4]

വിക്കിമീഡിയ ഫൗണ്ടേഷനുമായി അതിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് വിക്കിപീഡിയയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ലാത്ത വരുമാനം നോക്കുന്ന ഒരു വാർത്താ വെബ്സൈറ്റാണ് ഇത്. വിക്കിപീഡിയ പോലെ തന്നെ വിക്കിട്രീബ്യൂണിളും വാർത്തകൾ എഡിറ്റുചെയ്യാം എന്നതാണ് ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട കാര്യം.[5]
'This will be the first time that professional journalists and citizen journalists will work side-by-side as equals writing stories as they happen, editing them live as they develop and at all times backed by a community checking and rechecking all facts', said Wales.[6] Wales intends for the project to help fight fake news online; he was reportedly motivated to address this problem after hearing the Counselor to the U.S. president, Kellyanne Conway, use the expression 'alternative facts' during an interview in January 2017.[7][8]

2017 ഒക്ടോബറിൽ പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്കായി സൈറ്റ് തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു. "രാഷ്ട്രീയ, ബിസിനസ്സ്, സാമ്പത്തിക വാർത്തകൾ" എന്നി വിഷയത്തിൽ ആഴ്ചതോറുമുള്ള ആഴത്തിലുള്ള ലേഖനങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നതിൽ ഊന്നൽ നൽകി.[12][13]
