അറേബ്യൻ പെനിൻസുല, വടക്കേ ആഫ്രിക്ക, ലെവന്റ്, മെസൊപ്പൊട്ടേമിയ[39] എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ മരുഭൂമി പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ചരിത്രപരമായി അധിവസിച്ചിരുന്ന നാടോടികളായ അറബ് ഗോത്രങ്ങളാണ് ബദുക്കൾ(അറബി: بَدْو‬;Romanized:Bedu,Anglicized:Bedouins). [40]ബെഡോയിൻ എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വാക്ക് "മരുഭൂമിയിലെ താമസക്കാരൻ" എന്നർത്ഥം വരുന്ന അറബി വാക്ക് ബദാവി(بَدَوِي)യിൽ നിന്നാണ് വന്നത്. ഇത് പരമ്പരാഗതമായി ഉദാസീനരായ ആളുകൾക്കുള്ള പദമായ ഹാദിറിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്.[41]
