ശരീരത്തിലെ ജലത്തിന്റെ അളവ് കുറയുകയും ഉപാപചയം തടസ്സപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന അവസ്ഥയാണ് ആരോഗ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ നിർജ്ജലീകരണം (dehydration) എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്[1]. ശരീരത്തിലേക്ക് സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന ജലത്തിന്റെ അളവിനേക്കാൾ ശരീരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതിന്റെ ഫലമായാണ് നിർജ്ജലീകരണം സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്.  നാലു ശതമാനം വരെയുള്ള ജലനഷ്ടം അധികം പേർക്കും സഹിക്കാനാവും. അഞ്ച് മുതൽ എട്ട് ശതമാനം വരെയുള്ള ജലനഷ്ടം  തളർച്ച  തലകറക്കം എന്നിവയുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു. പത്തു ശതമാനത്തിലധികമുള്ള ജലനഷ്ടം ശാരീരികവും മാനസികവുമായ തളർച്ചയുണ്ടാക്കുകയും കഠിനമായ ദാഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. പതിനഞ്ച് മുതൽ ഇരുപത്തഞ്ച് ശതമാനം വരെയുള്ള ജലനഷ്ടം മരണത്തിന് പോലും കാരണമാകാം [2]

ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ തിരുത്തുക

നിർജ്ജലീകരണം പലതരത്തിലുള്ള ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ കാണിക്കും ദാഹം, തലവേദന, അസ്വസ്ഥത, വിശപ്പ് അനുഭവപ്പെടാതിരിക്കുക  മൂത്രം തീരെ കുറയുക, കൺഫ്യൂഷൻ, ക്ഷീണംഅപസ്മാരം പോലെ കോച്ചിപ്പിടുത്തം തുടങ്ങിയവ ഇതിൽ ചിലതാണ്[4]

പ്രായമേറുന്തോറും ദാഹമറിയുന്നതിനുള്ള കഴിവ് കുറയുന്നു. ഇത് മൂലം വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നത് കുറയുകയും നിർജ്ജലീകരണ സാധ്യത കൂടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.[5]

കാരണങ്ങൾ തിരുത്തുക

  • ചൂടുള്ളതും അധികം വിയർക്കുന്നതുമായ കാലാവസ്ഥ, ഉയർന്നപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ താമസം, ശാരീരിക അദ്ധ്വാനത്തിലേർപ്പെടുമ്പോഴുള്ള വിയർക്കൽ മൂലമുള്ള അമിത ജലനഷ്ടം, പ്രമേഹം പോലുള്ള  രോഗങ്ങൾ മൂലമുള്ള ജലനഷ്ടം തുടങ്ങിയവ നിർജ്ജലീകരണമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു[6]
  • മരുന്നുകളുടേയും മയക്കുമരുന്നുകളുടേയും ഉപയോഗം നിർജ്ജലികരണമുണ്ടാക്കാം[7].
  • പ്രായമായവരിൽ, ദാഹമറിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിൽ, ജലനഷ്ടം മനസ്സിലാവാതെ വരികയോ നിശ്ചിതമായ അളവിൽ ജലം ലഭ്യമാകാതെ വരികയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനാൽ നിർജ്ജലീകരണ സാധ്യത കൂടുന്നു.[8][9]

എങ്ങനെ തടയാം തിരുത്തുക

  • ദാഹമനുഭവപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുക[10].
  • ഓരോരുത്തർക്കും ആവശ്യമുള്ള ജലത്തിന്റെയളവ് വ്യത്യസ്തമായിരിക്കും. അത് മനസ്സിലാക്കി കുടിവെള്ളം ഉപയോഗിക്കുക[11] 
  • ചൂടുള്ള കാലാവസ്ഥയിൽ കൂടുതൽ ജലം കുടിക്കാൻ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക. കായികാദ്ധ്വാനം ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴും അത് ലറ്റിക്സിലും മറ്റും ഏർപ്പെടുമ്പോഴും ധാരാളം കുടിവെള്ളം ഉപയോഗിക്കുക [12][13].
  • അമിത ജലനഷ്ടമുണ്ടാവുമ്പോൾ, സോഡിയം പോലുള്ള ഇലക്ട്രോട്രോളെറ്റ് കൂടി നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു [14] [14].
  • അമിതമായി മധുരവും ഉപ്പും ചേർന്ന ഭക്ഷ്യപദാർത്ഥങ്ങൾ നിർജ്ജലീകരണത്തിന് കാരണമാകുന്നു[15]

  • ധാരാളം വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പ്രാഥമികമായി ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്. രക്തപ്ലാസ്മയിലെ ജലത്തിന്റെയളവ് തുലനാവസ്ഥയിലേക്കെത്തിക്കാൻ ഇതിന് സാധിക്കും[16]
  • ഛർദ്ദി, അതിസാരം എന്നിവ മൂലമുണ്ടാകുന്ന നിർജ്ജലീകരണം തടയാൻ പാനീയങ്ങൾ ധാരാളമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുക[17] ഇതിലൂടെ മൂത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉൽപാദനം ക്രമീകരിക്കാനാവും[18]
  • ചില സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ ജലവും ലവണങ്ങളും നൽകി ഈയവസ്ഥ പരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിന്  ഓറൽ റീഹൈഡ്രേഷൻ തെറാപ്പി  അതല്ലെങ്കിൽ  ഇൻട്രാവീനസ് തെറാപ്പി) നടത്തേണ്ടി വരും. നിർജ്ജലികരണം മാരകമല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഓറൽ റീഹൈഡ്രേഷൻ തെറാപ്പി മതിയാവും. ഇത് വേദനയില്ലാത്തതും ചെലവ് കുറഞ്ഞതും എളുപ്പത്തിൽ നൽകാനാവുന്നതുമാണ്. ഇതിനു വേണ്ടി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ലായനികൾ {{ഐസോടോണിക് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഹൈപർടോണിക്. ആയിരിക്കും. ശുദ്ധജലം നേരിട്ട് ധമനികളിലേക്ക് നൽകാറില്ല. ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്താൽ ചുവന്ന രക്താണുക്കൾ വിഘടിച്ച് നശിക്കുന്ന (ലൈസിസ) എന്ന അവസ്ഥയുണ്ടാവാം
  • കുടിവെള്ളമായി ശുദ്ധജലം ലഭിക്കാത്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ, അവസ്ഥ മാരകമാകാം. കടൽവെള്ളം  ചാരായം തുടങ്ങിയവ സ്ഥിതി രൂക്ഷമാക്കും. മൂത്രത്തിൽ കടൽവെള്ളത്തിലുള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ കുറഞ്ഞ അളവിൽ മാത്രമേ ലവണങ്ങൾ അടങ്ങിയിട്ടുള്ളൂ എന്നതിനാൽ, ജീവൻ നിലനിറുത്താൻ കടൽവെള്ളത്തിന് പകരം മൂത്രം ഉപയോഗിക്കാമെന്ന് വാദിക്കുന്നവരുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, അത് പോലും സ്ഥിതി വഷളാക്കുമെന്ന് വാദിക്കുന്നവരുമുണ്ട്[19].
