ഒരു ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഡോക്ടറും ജന്തുശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും ആയിരുന്നു തോമസ് സി ജെർഡോൺ (Thomas Caverhill Jerdon) (12 ഒക്ടോബർ 1811 – 12 ജൂൺ 1872)^[1] ഇന്ത്യയിലെ പക്ഷികളെപ്പറ്റി ആദ്യമായിത്തന്നെ വിശദമായി പഠനം നടത്തിയ ആളായിരുന്നു ജെർഡോൺ. (ജർഡോണിയ) എന്ന ജനുസ് അടക്കം നിരവധി സസ്യസ്പീഷിസുകൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ നാമകരണം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതു പോലെ തന്നെ വിരളമായ പക്ഷി ജർഡോൺസ് കോർസരും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ നാമകരണം നടത്തപ്പെട്ടതാണ്.

Smith's The Fauna of British India, Including Ceylon and Burma. Reptilia Volume 1. as well as the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry by Christine Brandon-Jones. However Dickinson, E.C. & S.M.S. Gregory (2006) have suggested that Claverhill may be the correct spelling as indicated in the India Office Record Archived 2016-08-18 at the Wayback Machine., possibly a transcription error and further evidence to the contrary may be seen from Scottish records of the time such as "Reports of Cases Decided in the House of Lords, Upon Appeal from Scotland, from 1726 to [1822].
