ഗോഫർ ആമ
ഗോഫറസ് ജനുസ്സിൽ പെട്ട ഒരു കരയാമയാണ് ഗോഫർ ആമ(Gopher tortoise). ഇതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്ര നാമം Gopherus polyphemus എന്നാണ് . യു.എസ്.എ യുടെ തെക്കൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.

നിലത്ത് മാളങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിൽ അതി വിദഗ്ദ്ധനാണ് ഗോഫർ . ഗോഫർ ആമകൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ മാളങ്ങൾ ഏകദേശം 360 ഓളം ജീവികൾക്ക് ആവാസ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളാണ്. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഗോഫർ ആമകളെ പാരിസ്ഥിതിക സന്തുലനം നില നിർത്തുന്ന Keystone species ആയി പരിഗണിക്കുന്നു. വേട്ടയാടൽ , ആവാസ സ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ നാശം എന്നിവ കാരണം ഗോഫർ ആമകൾ ഇന്ന് വംശനാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നു.
