കെയ്റ്റ് അപ്റ്റൺ മിഷിഗണിലെ സെൻറ് ജോസഫിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്. 1999 ൽ അവരുടെ കുടുംബം ഫ്ലോറിഡയിലെ മെൽബോണിലേയ്ക്ക് താമസം മാറി.[5] അവിടെ ഹോളി ട്രിനിറ്റി എപ്പിസ്കോപ്പൽ അക്കാഡമിയിൽ വിദ്യാർത്ഥിയായി ചേർന്നു.[6] ഒരു മുൻ ടെക്സാസ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ടെന്നീസ് ചാമ്പ്യനായിരുന്ന ഷെല്ലിയുടെയും (ഡേവിസ്) ഒരു ഹൈസ്കൂൾ അത്‍ലറ്റിക്സ് ഡയറക്ടറായിരുന്ന ജെഫ് അപ്റ്റൻറെയും മകളായിട്ടാണ് ജനിച്ചത്.[7][8][9]
