എൽസ മൊറാന്റെ
ഒരു ഇറ്റാലിയൻ നോവലിസ്റ്റായിരുന്നു എൽസ മൊറാന്റെ (18 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 1912 – 25 നവംബർ 1985). അവരുടെ "La storia" (History) എന്ന പ്രശസ്ത നോവലിന്റെ പേരിലാണ് അവർ കൂടുതൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ ഗ്രന്ഥം ബോക്ലുബ്ബെൻ വേൾഡ് ലൈബ്രറിയിലെ എക്കാലത്തേയും 100 മികച്ച ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

എൽസ മൊറാന്റെ ഇറ്റലിയിലെ റോമിൽ ഒരു സ്കൂൾ അദ്ധ്യാപികയായ ഇർനയുടെയും സിസിലിയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഫ്രാൻസെസ്‍കോ ലോ മൊണാക്കോയുടെയും മകളായി 1912 ൽ ജനിച്ചു. അവരുടെ മാതാവ് ജൂത മതക്കാരിയും പിതാവ് സിസിലി സ്വദേശിയുമായിരുന്നു.[1] അവരുടെ വളർത്തു പിതാവ് അഗസ്റ്റോ മൊറാൻറെയായിരുന്നു. രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധകാലത്തെ കുറച്ചു നാളുകളൊഴിച്ച് 1985 ൽ മരണമടയുന്നതുവരെയുള്ള കാലങ്ങൾ അവർ ജന്മനഗരത്തിൽത്തന്നെയാണ് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
