ഇന്യൂട്ട്
ഇന്യൂട്ട് ("ജനങ്ങൾ", ഏകവചനം: ഇനുക്)[3] ഗ്രീൻലാന്റ്, കാനഡ, അലാസ്ക എന്നിവയുടെ ആർട്ടിക് മേഖലകളിൽ അധിവസിക്കുന്നതും സാംസ്കാരികമായി സമാനത പുലർത്തുന്നതുമായ ഒരു കൂട്ടം ജനതയാണ്.[4] ഇന്യൂട്ട് ഭാഷകൾ എസ്കിമോ-അല്യൂട്ട് ഭാഷാകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്.[5] നൂനാവട്ടിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഇന്യൂട്ട് ആംഗ്യഭാഷ ഒറ്റതിരിഞ്ഞതും ഗുരുതരമായ നാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നതുമായ ഒന്നായി ഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.[6]

അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലും കാനഡയിലും ഇന്യൂട്ടുകളേയും സൈബീരിയയിലേയും അലാസ്കയിലേയും യുപിക്, ഇനുപ്യാറ്റ് ജനതയേയും വിവരിക്കാൻ യൂറോപ്യൻ വംശജർ "എസ്കിമോ" എന്ന പൊതുവായ പദം ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, യുപിക്കുകളെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുവാൻ "ഇന്യൂട്ട്" ഒരു പദമായി സ്വീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. “എസ്കിമോ”[7] എന്ന ഒരേയൊരു പദമാണ് യുപിക്, ഇനുപ്യാറ്റ്, ഇന്യൂട്ട് എന്നിവരെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുവാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാനംമുതൽ കാനഡയിലെ തദ്ദേശീയ ജനങ്ങളും ഗ്രീൻലാന്റിലെ ഇന്യൂട്ടുകളും “എസ്കിമോ” എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത് അവഹേളനാപരമായ പദമായി കണക്കാക്കുകയും “ഇന്യൂട്ട്” എന്ന പദത്താൽ തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.[8][9] കാനഡയിൽ, 1982 ലെ ഭരണഘടനാ നിയമത്തിന്റെ 25 ഉം 35 ഉം പരിച്ഛേദ പ്രകാരം ഇന്യൂട്ടുകളെ ഫസ്റ്റ് നേഷൻസിലോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മെറ്റിസിലോ ഉൾപ്പെടാത്ത ആദിമ കനേഡിയനുകളിലെ ഒരു വ്യതിരിക്ത വിഭാഗമായി തരം തിരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.[10]
നുനാവട്, നുനാവിക് തുടങ്ങിയ ക്യൂബക്കിന്റെ വടക്കൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ, ലാബ്രഡോറിലെ നുനാറ്റ്സിയാവട്, നുനാട്ടുക്കാവട് തുടങ്ങി വടക്കൻ കാനഡയിൽ അങ്ങോളമിങ്ങോളമുള്ള ഭൂരിപക്ഷം പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രവിശ്യകളിലെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും, പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും ആർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രത്തിനു ചുറ്റുപാടുമുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഇന്യൂട്ടുകൾ അധിവസിക്കുന്നു. ഇനുക്റ്റിടട് ഭാഷയിൽ ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിന് "ഇന്യൂട്ട് നുനാങ്കാത്" എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[11][12]
അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിൽ ഇനുപ്യാറ്റുകൾ പ്രാഥമികമായി അലാസ്ക നോർത്ത് സ്ലോപ്പിലും ലിറ്റിൽ ഡയോമിഡ് ദ്വീപിലുമാണു വസിക്കുന്നത്. കാനഡയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പുരാതന തദ്ദേശീയ കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരുടെ പിന്തുടർച്ചക്കാരാണ് ഗ്രീൻലാന്റ് ഇന്യൂട്ടുകൾ. ഈ ജനങ്ങൾ ഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലൂടെയാണ് കിഴക്കോട്ട് കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്തത്. അവർ യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയനിൽനിന്നല്ലാത്ത ഡെൻമാർക്ക് പൗരന്മാരാണ്.

ക്രി.വ. 1000-നടുത്ത് പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ അലാസ്കയിൽ നിന്ന് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞതും നരവംശശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ തുലെ ജനങ്ങൾ[13] വിളിക്കുന്നതുമായ ജനതയുടെ പിൻഗാമികളാണ് ഇൻയൂട്ട്.
