ജൊവാൻ മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി
ന്യൂസിലാന്റ് ക്ലിനിക്കൽ കെമിസ്റ്റായിരുന്നു ജോവാൻ മുറിയൽ മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി (1926–2015). 1926 ൽ വെല്ലിംഗ്ടണിലാണ് ജൊവാൻ മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി ജനിച്ചത്. പതിനേഴാം വയസ്സിൽ, മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി സയന്റിഫിക് ആൻഡ് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയൽ റിസർച്ച് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യാൻ അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും പെൺകുട്ടികൾക്ക് സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരാകാൻ കഴിയില്ലെന്ന് അധികൃതർ പറഞ്ഞു. [1] മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി 1949 ൽ ബിഎസ്‌സി ബിരുദം നേടി, 1977 ൽ വെല്ലിംഗ്ടൺ വിക്ടോറിയ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്ന് ബയോളജിക്കൽ കെമിസ്ട്രിയിൽ പിഎച്ച്ഡി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. [2] [3]
1987/88, 1988/89 എന്നീ കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിൽ ന്യൂസിലാന്റ് അസോസിയേഷൻ ഓഫ് സയന്റിസ്റ്റ്സിന്റെ പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്നു മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി. മാറ്റിംഗ്ലിയുടെ ഭരണകാലത്ത്, ന്യൂസിലാന്റ് സയൻസ് സിസ്റ്റത്തിന്റെ പുനസംഘടനയ്ക്കായി NZAS സർക്കാരിലേക്ക് നിരവധി സമർപ്പണങ്ങൾ നടത്തി. ന്യൂസിലാന്റ് ശാസ്ത്രത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും "പൊതുവെ ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലാകുകയും പരിഭ്രാന്തരാകുകയും സുരക്ഷിതമല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ശാസ്ത്ര സമൂഹത്തെ" സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതിനെതിരേയുള്ള അസാധാരണമായ പ്രക്ഷോഭങ്ങൾ എന്നാണ് മാറ്റിംഗ്ലി ഈ മാറ്റങ്ങളെ വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്. ബ്രയാൻ ഷോർലാൻഡ് എന്ന ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ മാറ്റിംഗ്ലിയുടെ ജീവചരിത്രം ജൊവാൻ കാമറൂൺ എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. [5]
2017 ൽ റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ന്യൂസിലാന്റിലെ "150 വാക്കുകളിൽ 150 സ്ത്രീകൾ" ആയി മാറ്റിംഗ്ലിയെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. [6]
