ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ ഡോക്ടറും ചണ്ഡിഗഡിലെ പോസ്റ്റ് ഗ്രാജുവേറ്റ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ എഡ്യൂക്കേഷൻ ആൻഡ് റിസർച്ചിലെ ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിന്റെ പ്രൊഫസറുമായിരുന്നു ഡോ. ജെ ജി ജോളി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഡോ. ജയ് ഗോപാൽ ജോളി (ജനനം: ഒക്ടോബർ 1, 1926). രക്തപ്പകർച്ച രംഗത്ത് അന്താരാഷ്ട്രതലത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന വിദഗ്ദ്ധനാണ് അദ്ദേഹം, ഇന്ത്യയിൽ സ്വമേധയായുള്ള രക്തദാന പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന് തുടക്കമിട്ട[1] അദ്ദേഹം "ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ്റെ പിതാവ്" ആയി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. [2] അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ പ്രൊഫഷണൽ ദാതാക്കളിൽ നിന്നും വില്പനയ്ക്ക് രക്തം വാങ്ങൽ തടയുന്നതിന് പ്രചാരണം, നേതൃത്വം എന്നിവ നൽകി.[3][4] അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഉപദേശങ്ങൾ പിന്നീട് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ദേശീയ ബ്ലഡ് നയത്തിൽ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളിച്ച്[5][6][7][8]സർക്കാർ ഇന്ത്യ നിയമമാക്കി. ഒക്ടോബർ 1 ന് "രക്തദാന ദിനം" ആചരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് രക്തദാന പരിപാടികളുടെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം ജനങ്ങളിൽ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു. സന്നദ്ധ ദാതാക്കളിൽ നിന്ന് ആവശ്യമായ അളവിലുള്ള രക്തം ലഭിക്കുന്നതിന് ഇത് സഹായിച്ചു.[9] ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ മേഖലയിലെ പ്രൊഫഷണൽ സേവനം, ഗവേഷണം, അദ്ധ്യാപനം എന്നിവയിലെ വികസനത്തിനും മികവിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സമർപ്പിത പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ വളരെയധികം സഹായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

ചണ്ഡിഗഢ് ബ്ലഡ് ബാങ്ക് സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ സ്ഥാപകനായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം, ഇന്ത്യൻ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ബ്ലഡ് ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ ആൻഡ് ഇമ്മ്യൂണോഹെമറ്റോളജി എന്നിവയുടെ സ്ഥാപക പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്നു.[10] അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംഭാവനകളുടെ ഫലമായി നിരവധി അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പ്രതിനിധികളിലും ശാസ്ത്ര സമ്മേളനങ്ങളിലും അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്ത്യയെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ചു. ഈ സന്ദർശന വേളയിൽ, ഇന്ത്യയിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായ സംഘടനാ നവീകരണത്തിനായി ലോകത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ രക്തപ്പകർച്ച പ്രോഗ്രാം പഠിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചു.

ചണ്ഡിഗഢ് എസ്‌ജി‌പി‌ജി‌ഐ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയപ്പോൾ ലഖ്‌നൗവിൽ പി‌ജി‌ഐയിൽ നിയമനം ചേർന്ന് അവിടെയൊരു മികവുറ്റ വകുപ്പ് സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. അവിടെ അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ആദ്യമായി ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിനിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം നേടി. തുടർന്ന് ചണ്ഡിഗഢിലെ സർക്കാർ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ അദ്ദേഹം കൺസൾട്ടേഷൻ നൽകി.[11]

സമീപ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ, അദ്ദേഹം പ്രധാനമായും ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ അക്കാദമിക് വികസനത്തിനും ഹീമോഫിലിയാക്കുകൾക്ക് സൗജന്യ ഘടകങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നതിനും ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചു.[12][13][14] "ഇന്ത്യയിൽ തലസീമിയയ്ക്കായി മാതാപിതാക്കളെയും പിഞ്ചു കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും സ്‌ക്രീനിംഗ്" ചെയ്യണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വാദിച്ചു.[15][16][17][18] ഇന്ത്യയിൽ രക്ത ഘടകങ്ങൾ തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നതിനായി കൂടുതൽ വിപുലമായ സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ ഏർപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകത അദ്ദേഹം ഊന്നിപ്പറഞ്ഞു.[19][20] ദുരന്തസമയത്ത് രക്തത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യകത നിറവേറ്റുന്നതിനായി അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.[21] പഞ്ചാബ്, ഹരിയാന, ചണ്ഡിഗഡ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ ദേശീയ, സംസ്ഥാന രക്തപ്പകർച്ച കൗൺസിലുകളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം മേഖലയിലെ ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ സേവനങ്ങൾ വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങൾ തുടരുകയാണ്.[22][23][24][25][26] ചണ്ഡിഗഡിലെ പുതുതായി സ്ഥാപിതമായ ഗവൺമെന്റ് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ രക്ത ഘടകങ്ങൾക്കായി നന്നായി സ്ഥാപിതമായ യൂണിറ്റുകൾ ഉള്ള ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ വകുപ്പ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതിലും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. ബ്ലഡ് ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിനിൽ ഒരു അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിദഗ്ദ്ധനെന്ന നിലയിൽ, ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനയ്ക്കുള്ള സുരക്ഷിതമായ രക്തപ്പകർച്ചയ്ക്കുള്ള തന്ത്രങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹം അവലോകനം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്, [27] കൂടാതെ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ജേണലുകളിൽ നൂറിലധികം ശാസ്ത്രീയ ലേഖനങ്ങൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[28][29][30][31]

ഈ രംഗത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം നൽകിയ എണ്ണമറ്റ സംഭാവനകളുടെ ഫലമായി ഡോ. ജോളി ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ബ്ലഡ് ബാങ്കിംഗിന്റെ നേതാവായി അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[32][33][34][35] ഡോ. ജോളിക്ക് ലഭിച്ച നിരവധി പുരസ്കാരങ്ങളിൽ ലഖ്‌നൗ സർവകലാശാല വിശിഷ്ട ഗവേഷണ സംഭാവനയ്ക്കുള്ള ജെ.ജി മുഖർജി സ്വർണ്ണ മെഡൽ (1958), ഡോ. ബി.സി റോയ് ദേശീയ അവാർഡ്, ഇന്ത്യയിലെ രക്തപ്പകർച്ചയുടെ പ്രത്യേകത (1981), ഫിലിപ്പ് ലെവിൻ ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ മെഡിസിൻ (1993), ഐ‌ഡി‌പി‌എൽ ഡയമണ്ട് ജൂബിലി ഐ‌എം‌എ ഓറേഷൻ അവാർഡ് (1996) എന്നിവയിലെ ദേശീയ സംഭാവനകൾക്കുള്ള മെമ്മോറിയൽ അവാർഡ് എന്നിവയുണ്ട്. സാമൂഹ്യസേവനത്തിനും രക്തദാനരംഗത്തെ മികച്ച നേട്ടങ്ങൾക്കും ചണ്ഡിഗഢ് അഡ്മിനിസ്ട്രേഷൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ദിനത്തിൽ ആദരിച്ചു.[36] ഇന്ത്യയിൽ രക്തപ്പകർച്ചയുടെ പ്രത്യേകത അംഗീകരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന വസ്തുത ഡോ. ജോളിയുടെ നിരന്തരമായ പരിശ്രമമാണ്. ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടന, ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ബ്ലഡ് ട്രാൻസ്ഫ്യൂഷൻ, വേൾഡ് ഫെഡറേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഹീമോഫീലിയ എന്നിവ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അംഗീകാരം നൽകി.
