ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വംശീയമായും സാംസ്കാരികമായും വൈവിധ്യമുള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് ഇന്ത്യ. ഇന്തോ-ആര്യന്മാർ, ദ്രാവിഡർ, മംഗോളോയിഡുകൾ തുടങ്ങി വിവിധ വംശീയ വിഭാഗങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ ജനത. ഹിന്ദുമതം, ബുദ്ധമതം, ജൈനമതം, സിഖ് മതം തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രധാന മതങ്ങളുടെ ജന്മസ്ഥലമാണ് ഇന്ത്യ. പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട മുസ്ലീം, ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ, മറ്റ് മത സമൂഹങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും ഇവിടെ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.

രാജ്യത്തുടനീളം നൂറുകണക്കിന് ഭാഷകൾ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഭാഷാപരമായ വൈവിധ്യമുള്ള രാജ്യമാണ് ഇന്ത്യ. ഹിന്ദിയും ഇംഗ്ലീഷും ഔദ്യോഗിക ഭാഷകളാണ്, എന്നാൽ ബംഗാളി, തെലുങ്ക്, മറാത്തി, തമിഴ്, പഞ്ചാബി, കന്നഡ എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളുണ്ട്.

2011-ലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ദേശീയ സെൻസസ് അനുസരിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ജനസംഖ്യ 1.2 ബില്യണിലധികം ആളുകളാണ്. ആഗോള ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ 17.50 ശതമാനം ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള രണ്ടാമത്തെ രാജ്യമായി ഇന്ത്യ മാറി.

ഇന്ത്യൻ വംശജരായ നിരവധി ആളുകൾ വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ ലോകത്തിലെ പല രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യൻ വംശജരായ ഭൂരിഭാഗം ആളുകളും യുണൈറ്റഡ് അറബ് എമിറേറ്റ്സ്, സൗത്ത് ഈസ്റ്റ് ഏഷ്യ, യുണൈറ്റഡ് കിംഗ്ഡം, നോർത്ത് അമേരിക്ക, ഓസ്ട്രേലിയ, ന്യൂസിലാൻഡ്, ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്ക, കരീബിയൻ ദ്വീപുകൾ, യൂറോപ്പ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ് താമസിക്കുന്നത്. വിദേശത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ വംശജരുടെ എണ്ണം ഏകദേശം 12 ദശലക്ഷം മുതൽ 20 ദശലക്ഷം വരെയാണ്.

വംശനാമം തിരുത്തുക

സമ്പന്നമായ ചരിത്രവും സംസ്‌കാരവും വൈവിധ്യവും പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിവിധ പേരുകളിലും പേരുകളിലും ഇന്ത്യ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭാരതം എന്ന പേര് ഹിന്ദിയിലും മറ്റ് നിരവധി ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭാഷകളിലും ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമമാണ്. പുരാതന ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇതിഹാസമായ മഹാഭാരതത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഇത് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞത്. ഭരതൻ എന്ന ഇതിഹാസ രാജാവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.[22]

ചരിത്രപരമായി പലപ്പോഴും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ഹിന്ദുസ്ഥാൻ എന്ന പദം ഹിന്ദുക്കളുടെ നാടിനെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ആധുനിക ഇന്ത്യ, പാകിസ്ഥാൻ, ബംഗ്ലാദേശ് എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തെ വിവരിക്കാൻ ഇത് ഉപയോഗിച്ചു.[23]

ചരിത്രം തിരുത്തുക

സമ്പന്നവും വൈവിധ്യപൂർണ്ണവുമായ സാംസ്കാരിക, സാമൂഹിക, രാഷ്ട്രീയ പൈതൃകത്താൽ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തപ്പെട്ട ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വർഷങ്ങൾ നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന വിശാലവും സങ്കീർണ്ണവുമായ ഒന്നാണ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചരിത്രം. മോഹൻജൊ-ദാരോ, ഹാരപ്പ തുടങ്ങിയ ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്ത നഗരങ്ങളുള്ള ലോകത്തിലെ ആദ്യകാല നാഗരികതകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്.[24] ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മതപരവും സാമൂഹികവുമായ ഘടനയെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ വേദകാല സമയത്താണ് രചിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. ചന്ദ്രഗുപ്ത മൗര്യ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ പ്രധാന സാമ്രാജ്യം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു, തുടർന്ന് അശോകൻ ബുദ്ധമതത്തിന്റെ പ്രചാരണത്തിന് തുടക്കമിട്ടു.[25] കല, ശാസ്ത്രം, ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രം എന്നിവയിലെ നേട്ടങ്ങൾക്ക് ഗുപ്ത സാമ്രാജ്യ കാലം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സുവർണ്ണകാലം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. മുഗളന്മാർ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും ഭരിച്ചു.[26] സാംസ്കാരിക സമന്വയവും താജ്മഹൽ പോലുള്ള വാസ്തുവിദ്യാ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും അവർ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു. കൊളോണിയൽ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ പോർച്ചുഗീസ്, ഡച്ച്, ഫ്രഞ്ച്, ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് യൂറോപ്യൻ കൊളോണിയൽ ശക്തികൾ വ്യാപാരം ആരംഭിക്കുകയും തുടർന്ന് ആതിപത്യം സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും ഒടുവിൽ 18-ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഈസ്റ്റ് ഇന്ത്യാ കമ്പനിയുടെ ഭരണത്തിന് കീഴിലായി.[27]

സംസ്കാരം തിരുത്തുക

ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കം ചെന്ന നാഗരികതകളിലൊന്നാണ് ഇന്ത്യ.[28] ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിലുടനീളം, ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്കാരത്തെ ധാർമിക മതങ്ങൾ വളരെയധികം സ്വാധീനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.[29] ഇന്ത്യൻ തത്ത്വചിന്ത, സാഹിത്യം, വാസ്തുവിദ്യ, കല, സംഗീതം എന്നിവയിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയതിന്റെ ബഹുമതി ഇന്ത്യൻ ജനതക്കുണ്ട് . ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിനപ്പുറമുള്ള ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രപരമായ വ്യാപ്തിയായിരുന്നു മഹത്തായ ഇന്ത്യ. ഹിന്ദുമതം, ബുദ്ധമതം, വാസ്തുവിദ്യ, ഭരണസംവിധാനം, എഴുത്ത് സമ്പ്രദായം എന്നിവ ഇന്ത്യയിൽനിന്ന് സിൽക്ക് റോഡിലൂടെ ഏഷ്യയുടെ മറ്റ് ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ആദ്യ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിൽ സഞ്ചാരികളും വ്യാപാരികളും പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചു.[30] മധ്യകാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ, ഇന്ത്യൻ സാംസ്കാരിക പൈതൃകം രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിൽ ഇസ്ലാം ഒരു പ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിച്ചു.[31]
