സ്ട്രോബിലാന്തസ് കലോസ
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ തീരത്തുള്ള പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലെ താഴ്ന്ന കുന്നുകളിൽ പ്രധാനമായും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു കുറ്റിച്ചെടിയാണ് സ്ട്രോബിലാന്തസ് കാലോസ നീസ്[1] (പര്യായപദം: കാർവിയ കലോസ (നീസ്) ബ്രെമെക്)[1] .[2] അതിന്റെ ഹിന്ദി ഭാഷയിലെ പേര് മറുഡോണ (मरुआदोना)[3] എന്നാണ്. ഇത് മധ്യപ്രദേശ് സംസ്ഥാനത്തും ഈ പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര സംസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ മറാത്തി ഭാഷയിലും[4] മറ്റ് പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷകളിലും അയൽ സംസ്ഥാനമായ കർണാടകയിലും [5]ഈ കുറ്റിച്ചെടി പ്രാദേശികമായി കർവി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[6][5][6][7][8][9] ചിലപ്പോൾ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ karvy എന്ന് ഉച്ചരിക്കുന്നു.[10][11]

19-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ നീസ് ആദ്യമായി ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി വിവരിച്ച സ്ട്രോബിലാന്തസ് ജനുസ്സിൽ പെട്ടതാണ് ഈ കുറ്റിച്ചെടി.[11] ഈ ജനുസ്സിൽ ഏകദേശം 350 സ്പീഷീസുകളുണ്ട്.[12] ഇതിൽ 46 എണ്ണമെങ്കിലും ഇന്ത്യയിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഇനങ്ങളിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും വാർഷികം മുതൽ 16 വർഷം വരെ പൂക്കുന്ന പരിവൃത്തി വ്യത്യാസപ്പെടുന്ന തരത്തിൽ അസാധാരണമായ പൂവിടുന്ന സ്വഭാവം കാണിക്കുന്നു. ദേശീയ തലത്തിൽ ഏത് ചെടിയാണ് പൂവിടുന്നത് എന്നതിനെ കുറിച്ച് പലപ്പോഴും ആശയക്കുഴപ്പം ഉണ്ടാകാറുണ്ട്.[13]
