അമേരിക്കൻ എഴുത്തുകാരിയും, വിചക്ഷണയും, കലാ-രാഷ്ട്രീയപ്രവർത്തകയുമായിരുന്ന സൂസൻ സൊൻടാഗ്.(ജനുവരി 16, 1933 – ഡിസംബർ 28, 2004) ജൂത ദമ്പതികളായ ജാക്ക് റോസൻബ്ലാറ്റിന്റേയും, മിൽഫ്രെഡിന്റേയും പുത്രിയായി ന്യൂയോർക്കിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്.[1] 1964ൽ സൂസൻ തന്റെ ഉപന്യാസങ്ങളുടെ സമാഹാരമായ ക്യാമ്പിലെ കുറിപ്പുകൾ("Notes on Camp") പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. സാഹിത്യരംഗത്തേയ്ക്കുള്ള സൂസന്റെ തുടക്കമായിരുന്നു ഇത്. പ്രഭാഷണരംഗത്തും സമകാലികരാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലും സജീവമായിരുന്ന അവർ യുദ്ധബാധിതപ്രദേശങ്ങളായിരുന്ന വിയറ്റ്നാമും, സരയാവോയും സന്ദർശിയ്ക്കാനും തയ്യാറായി. സൂസന്റെ പ്രകോപനപരമായ നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങളൂം അഭിപ്രായപ്രകടനങ്ങളും ഏറെ വിമർശനം ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങിയിരുന്നു.

  • A Parsifal (1991), a deconstruction inspired by Robert Wilson's 1991 staging of the Wagner opera[3]
  • Alice in Bed (1993), about 19th century intellectual, Alice James, who was confined to bed by illness[4]
  • Lady from the Sea, an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's 1888 play of the same name, premiered in 1998 in Italy.[5] Sontag wrote an essay about it in 1999 in Theatre called "Rewriting Lady from the Sea".[6]
