ആന്റിവൈറൽ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ആന്റിനിയോപ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മരുന്നാണ് ഇന്റർഫെറോൺ ആൽഫ -2 ബി. ഇന്റർഫെറോൺ ആൽഫ -2 എന്ന പ്രോട്ടീന്റെ പുനർസംയോജന രൂപമാണിത്. സൂറിച്ച് സർവകലാശാലയിലെ ചാൾസ് വൈസ്മാന്റെ ലബോറട്ടറിയിൽ ആദ്യം സീക്വൻസ് ചെയ്യുകയും എഷെറിക്കീയ കോളി ബാക്റ്റീരിയയുമായി [1]പുന:സംയോജിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[2][3] ഇത് അമേരിക്കൻ മൾട്ടിനാഷണൽ ബയോടെക്നോളജി കമ്പനി ബയോജനിൽ വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുത്തു. ഇൻട്രോൺ-എ എന്ന വ്യാപാര നാമത്തിൽ ഷെറിംഗ്-പ്ലോവ് ഇതിനെ വിപണനം ചെയ്തു. വൈറൽ അണുബാധകൾക്കും ക്യാൻസറിനും ഇത് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

SARS-CoV-2 ഉള്ള രോഗികളെ ചികിത്സിക്കുന്നതിനായി ക്ലിനിക്കൽ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളിൽ ഈ മരുന്ന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.[4] കൊറോണ വൈറസ് രോഗം 2019 ബാധിതരെ ചികിൽസിക്കുന്നതിന് പരീക്ഷണാടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ഇന്റർഫെറോൺ ആൽഫ -2 ബി. ഉപയോഗിച്ചുവരുന്നു.[5][6]
